Renesas Configuration Script Manager — User Manual
This manual explains how to use Renesas Configuration Script Manager to connect a supported device, prepare configuration data, send the data to the device, and review results from the application screens.
This manual is written from a user workflow perspective. It focuses on UI actions and expected results rather than implementation details.
1. Overview
1.1. Introduction
Configuration Script Manager helps you prepare and apply configuration values to a connected Renesas target. You can open the app, connect your device, build or import configuration entries, send data, and verify status and logs from one place.
The application flow is organized around Home and Configuration. Most tasks follow the same pattern: connect the target, prepare data, validate it, send it, then confirm the result.
1.2. Key Features
Guided Configuration Flow
Move from connection to data preparation and sending using a single guided screen.
Structured Data Editing
Create and edit configuration entries with clear field labels and validation feedback.
Device Programming Actions
Send prepared data to the target and monitor operation progress.
Readback and Verification
Review read or generated rows in table form for quick validation.
Project Reuse
Save and load project data to repeat known-good setups across runs.
Live Log Feedback
Follow operation messages in the log window and clear old output when needed.
2. Before You Start
2.1. What You Need
| Item | Description | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renesas target device | Supported device for configuration workflow | Required | Ensure the device is powered and reachable before sending data. |
| USB cable | Connection cable for your board | Required | Use a stable cable and avoid disconnecting during operations. |
| Host PC | System running VS Code | Required | Desktop mode uses serial port access. Browser mode uses permission-based connection. |
| Extension installed | Configuration Script Manager extension | Required | Open from the Activity Bar after installation. |
2.2. Connection Types
| Mode | How You Connect | What You Do |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop | Serial port selection | Open the Device section, click Connect, and select the correct COM port. |
| Browser / Web | Browser serial permission | Click Connect and approve the target device in the browser chooser. |
Close other serial tools that may be using the same device before connecting in Configuration Script Manager.
3. Home Page
3.1. Main Actions
The Home page gives a quick overview of the tool and the main entry points for daily use.
Open the tool
Launch the extension and wait for the Home page to load.
Open the user manual
Use Open User Manual whenever you need field or workflow guidance.
Go to Configuration
Click Configuration to begin device connection and data workflow.
3.2. Version and Help
Use the version area on Home to verify you are on the expected release before you run programming actions. Use the manual for step-by-step reminders.
4. Connect Your Device
The Device section in the right-side drawer is the first section to complete before data operations.
4.1. Desktop Serial Connection
Open Configuration
Go to the Configuration page from Home.
Expand Device
In the right drawer, open the Device panel if it is collapsed.
Connect
Click Connect and choose the correct serial port.
Confirm status
Wait until the UI shows connected status before sending data.
4.2. Browser Connection
In web mode, use Connect and approve your target in the browser device chooser. Continue only after the connection state updates in the drawer.
4.3. Connection Status
| Item | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Connect | Starts device connection flow. |
| Disconnect | Ends the current connection. Stop active operations first. |
| Device details | Shows device or port information after successful connection. |
| Status indicator | Shows whether the tool is ready for read, write, or send actions. |
Do not disconnect the target while data is being sent or erased. Wait for completion first.
5. Configuration Operation
5.1. Start a Session
Connect the device
Use the Device section until connection is confirmed.
Choose active tab
Select the data tab you want to work with in the Configuration workspace.
Review current rows
Check table rows and status area before adding new entries.
5.2. Build and Edit Entries
Use the add-entry controls in the drawer to build your data set. Fill required fields, review validation feedback, and keep values consistent with your target setup.
- Add new entries one at a time and verify each row appears in the table.
- Review addresses, values, and descriptions before sending.
- Clear entries only after confirming you no longer need the current set.
5.3. Send to Device
When rows are ready and validation is clean, run the send action from the main content area. Monitor progress indicators and the log panel until completion.
For repeatable results, run with a known baseline project and change one setting at a time between runs.
6. Project Workflow
6.1. Save or Load
Save your current data set as a project so you can reuse it later. Load an existing project to restore known settings quickly before connecting and sending.
6.2. Verify and Compare
After loading, compare key rows and values with your expected configuration before sending. This helps prevent accidental programming with stale or wrong data.
7. Common Fields and Actions
| Area | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Device panel | Connect, disconnect, and monitor connection status. |
| Add Entry panel | Create and append new configuration rows. |
| Table view | Review addresses, values, descriptions, and active rows. |
| Send / Read / Erase actions | Run device operations based on current rows and selected tab. |
| Validation feedback | Highlights issues that should be resolved before sending. |
8. Log Window
The log window shows operation progress, status changes, and error messages.
- Expand the log to inspect detailed messages during send, read, and erase operations.
- Use the clear-log action before a new run to isolate current messages.
- If an operation fails, review the latest log lines before retrying.
9. Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to Check | Suggested Action |
|---|---|---|
| Device not listed | Port may be in use or cable may be unstable. | Reconnect, close other serial tools, and refresh connection list. |
| Connect fails | Wrong port or missing device permissions. | Choose the correct port and repeat browser/device permission flow. |
| Send action fails | Validation errors or unstable connection. | Fix highlighted row issues, confirm connection, and send again. |
| Unexpected read data | Wrong tab or wrong project loaded. | Confirm active tab and reload the expected project file. |
| No log updates | Operation did not start or log panel is collapsed. | Re-run action and expand log window to monitor messages. |
10. Best Practices
- Connect first, then prepare rows, then send.
- Save project snapshots before major changes.
- Use small incremental changes between test runs.
- Read and review logs after each send operation.
- Keep one known-good baseline project for quick recovery.
